The Adventure Bike We Did Not Expect : Kove 800X Rally
Kove 800X Rally Opinion: Real World Adventure Motorcycle Tested Off Road and On
I climbed onto the Kove 800X Rally with no real expectations. By the end of the ride, I stepped off it wanting one. That alone says a lot.
First impressions matter, and despite carrying a full 20 litres of fuel, the 800X Rally feels impressively light. It never comes across as top heavy, which immediately inspires confidence both on the road and when the surface turns loose. For a bike in this class, that is a big win.
The seat deserves a special mention. It is soft without being spongy, and more importantly, it did not leave me with a sore backside after time in the saddle. That is something adventure riders will appreciate on longer days. Ergonomically, at 6ft2 tall, the rider triangle felt a bit tight when seated, but once standing on the pegs the bike came alive. In that position, it felt natural, balanced, and very comfortable, clearly designed with off road riding in mind.
Fire the bike up and the engine immediately makes an impression. It has a beautiful, purposeful sound, and the power delivery is smooth and predictable. There is no abruptness here, just a well mannered engine that builds power in a way that works both on gravel and sealed roads. The Kove 800X Rally has two rider modes, Eco and Sport, which can be changed effortlessly by entering the menu via the switch gear on the left side of the handlebars. Switching to Sport mode off road improved responsiveness, delivered more precise throttle control and made technical sections and loose terrain far more enjoyable.
The suspension is another standout. It handled everything we threw at it, including corrugations, ruts, rocks, and faster open sections, without ever feeling overwhelmed. It stayed composed, predictable, and confidence inspiring, reinforcing the bike’s rally focused intent and making it easy to ride harder than expected.
Build quality also impressed. Everything I looked at and touched felt solid and well put together, giving confidence that this bike is built to be used as intended rather than just admired in a showroom. Practical details have clearly been thought through as well, with both USB-A and USB-C power points fitted, making it easy to keep phones, GPS units, and other accessories charged on longer rides. The stock tyres performed surprisingly well both on and off road, offering good grip and stability. Longevity remains a question mark, as I am not sure how long they will last, but performance wise they do the job straight out of the crate.
And then there is the look of it. The Kove 800X Rally simply looks cool. It has a purposeful rally aesthetic that hints at adventure before you have even turned the key.
I started this ride with curiosity and no expectations. I finished it genuinely impressed. The Kove 800X Rally is not just a capable adventure bike. It is one that sneaks up on you and makes you want to clear space in the garage.
Exciting news for adventure riders. Rumbling Adventures will be adding Kove 800X Rally bikes to their tour fleet for the 2026/2027 season, so soon you will have the chance to ride them on real tours, put them through their paces, and experience firsthand why we are so impressed. Adventure just got a whole lot more thrilling.
We would also like to give a big thank you to TSM Enterprises LTD, the importer of Kove Motorcycles to New Zealand, for giving us the opportunity to test ride these bikes and experience what Kove is bringing to the adventure market.

If you’re considering a NZ moto adventure, I can’t recommend Rumbling Adventures enough—mostly because of Tim. I’ve seen how he shows up when things go sideways (I crashed and broke my foot on a past rental). Professional, thoughtful, and solid under pressure. We’re back for a private South Island tour with our crew, and we’re genuinely excited—especially with the Kove 450 Rally and Kove 800 bikes now available.
